It's the right thing to do…or is it? Ethics.

1.    Share what you had expected to learn about the topic before the class.
a.    I just expected to discuss the ins and outs of ethics in the workplace, as nurses.
2.    What you actually learned from the unit.
a.    I really liked today’s class!  The discussion was fascinating and it was good to hear differing points of view on issues such as the cases we discussed.  Sometimes it takes a class like this to remember that everyone does not think like I do.
3.   How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.
a.    I’ll (hopefully!) remember to keep an open mind to other’s ideas and beliefs.  I really hope to volunteer on an ethics committee at some point.  I really like it.
4.    Your personal feelings about the material covered.

a.    I actually agreed with most of the consensus that we came to on each case.  I felt bad about the biological parents of the surrogate mother case (not what we decided, but how it all shook out).  Some of these things are just heartbreaking, I’m sure.  Sometimes I wonder if it would be good if the ethics committee had more power!
